My middle child is away on a Camp this weekend. She was encouraged to go by her teacher, and that same teacher helped her seek out sponsorship for it. They were successful and although it was offered to anyone in her class, only my daughter and her friend were keen. Unfortunately the friend came down sick, so Rhiannon has gone alone. Here's the sponser's spiel on it....
Wodonga Council's youth services offers sponsorship to Youth LEAD Program
An innovative eco-social action and leadership training program designed to give young people the skills, motivation and opportunities to tackle climate change and lead the way to a sustainable future.
Youth LEAD already involves more than 500 participants across seven states and territories, implementing action plans in their own communities and beyond; 95 per cent of participants rate the program as life-changing and “totally” excellent, relevant and worthwhile.
Wodonga Council's youth services' team are offering sponsorship to interested young people to the next youth lead workshops in September.
We are asking young people who have a keen interest in the environment and would like to be involved in this program to contact youth services by August 22, 2008.
Wodonga Council's youth services team ask that we maintain a connection with participants that we sponsor to support the implementation of their action plan once the workshops have finsished.
And here's the Oz Green link to the program.

This afternoon we are going out to the camp to hear the presentations. This is when Rhiannon will present her plans for a future project. We had no idea taht her sponsership would also support her for this ongoing project.
Currently Rhiannon is in year eleven. If she wants to continue to study environmental science, she will be able to do so at the local university, which would suit her well as she wants to maintain contact with the farm.
I really admire this child, who has never found schooling easy. She had reading recovery in the early years ad then literacy support for her first year of high school. Yet she has a quiet determination and when she sets herself a goal, she systematically works towards it, step by step. I know she will succeed at whatever she sets her mind to.
